	  Hollowing Endgrain
with Richard Raffan
A master turner demonstrates a back-hollowing technique
If you want to turn a lidded box, goblet, or vase on a lathe, you need to hollow endgrain. In this video, Richard Raffan shows you a back-hollowing technique for endgrain using only a shallow gouge and scrapers.
Raffan gets you started by turning a small bowl. You'll see how the gouge slices the wood and how to use scrapers to complete the hollowing process.
In a more challenging box project, Raffan shows how to control your tools when hollowing deeper forms and how to practice deep-hollowing without any real risk to your work. Finally, he demonstrates what to do when shapes and details go wrong.
