Are there loans available specifically for nursing students?

Yes. They are regulated by HRSA, The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Where can I apply for nursing student loans?

Same place you would for any student loan: at the student financial aid office of the school or college where you are or intend to be enrolled.



What kind of degree programs can I get nursing student loans for?

HRSA approves loans for individuals that want to pursue a course of study leading to a diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing.

I can only attend nursing school part time (or half time) Can I still qualify got a nursing loan?

Absolutely. The HRSA's Nursing Student Loan program provides long-term, low-interest rate loans to full-time and half-time students.

Other than my financial status, are there other eligibility requirements?

Yes. An applicant is eligible to apply for this loan if:

  • the school or college they wish to attend that participates in the Nursing Student Loan program

  • the applicant is "a citizen, national, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealths of Puerto Rico or the Marianas Islands, the Virgin Islands, Guam, the American Samoa, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and and the Federated State of Micronesia."
